About Jones Dental

At JONES DENTAL our dental professionals and staff work together to carry out our motto:

“Caring dentistry for a healthy smile”

Caring Dentistry for a Healthy Smile has been our policy from the day Dr Austin Jones and Dr Paul Jones first opened their doors on Crown Street Wollongong in 1962, more than 60 years ago.

Dr Michael Jones joined the practice a few years later and now Dr Celia Jones, Michael’s daughter, proudly carries on the family name at Jones Dental. Our current partners, Dr Andrew Chadban, Dr Michael Wood, Dr Greig Allan and Dr Celia Jones continue to carry on our motto and provide caring dentistry to generations of Illawarra smiles.

Patient First Policy

Our Patient First Policy has enabled Jones Dental to grow into three locations in Wollongong, Unanderra and Oak Flats to become the premier provider of Dental Services in the Illawarra.

The advantages of a larger practice are increased access to treatment and more treatment options. We understand that all of our patients have individual needs and as such we offer a range of services including: general and preventative dentistry, cosmetic dentistry including crowns and veneers, implants, wisdom teeth removal, snoring and sleep apnoea solutions, orthodontic solutions and emergency dental care.

Best dental care requires a regular and personal relationship with your preferred dentist. This is encouraged at Jones Dental where the Partners are both the dentists and the owners so very different from corporate style dentistry.

Some of our highly qualified dental team are now treating the grandchildren of the early patients – Truly family dentists.

Nervous Patients

At Jones Dental we understand some patients can find dental treatment stressful, even with normal local anaesthesia. For this reason we offer other options to help make our patient’s dental experience more comfortable.

1

Gas Sedation or ‘Happy Gas’ (relative analgesia) – where the patient is fully awake but very relaxed.

2

General Anaesthesia – where the patient is asleep.

How do I choose the right dentist?

Choosing the right dentist is an important decision as they are someone you will see on a regular basis over many years, even possibly your whole life. The right dentist will be your partner in looking after your oral health needs, keeping your teeth, gums and mouth healthy so they should be someone you like and feel comfortable with.

Seeing one dentist consistently, rather than shopping around for a new dentist every visit, provides you with a consistently high level of care as your dentist knows your medical and dental history and any current treatment plans you have discussed.

Is dental filling a very painful process?

Often it is very daunting going to the dentist and finding out that you need a filling for the first time, but having a filling is rarely ever painful. Patients are usually concerned about having a local anaesethetic, with the use of a special numbing gel and slow injecting techniques, patients often find that they barely feel the injection. Another cause of anxiety is the sounds during the filling process, here at Jones Dental we are happy to supply you earphones to listen to your favourite tunes which makes having a filling a very relaxing process.

How is take home whitening done?

With the take home kit your dentist first takes an impression of your teeth. A special thin tray is then constructed to fit your teeth accurately.

The whitening agent, which is in the form of a gel, is placed in the tray and the tray is worn at home for the period of time recommended by your dentist.

A typical routine with a standard whitening agent, such as 10% hydrogen peroxide, is to wear the tray overnight each night for two weeks.
